SMUC "Safe Space for Scanning" Code of Conduct
To ensure a safe environment for our Students and Staff, all Participants must read, understand, and agree to the following Sport Medicine Ultrasound Canada (SMUC) “Safe Space for Scanning” Code of Conduct, prior to each event.
Non-Discrimination
Students will not refuse to participate in the care of a Participant based on race, colour, ancestry, religion, national or ethnic origin, appearance, political belief, marital or family status, socioeconomic status, gender, gender identity, gender expression, medical condition, physical or mental limitations, age, sexual preference, sexual orientation, or otherwise, and will treat all Teachers, Participants, and other Students with respect and consideration at all times.
Misconduct
Students will take care to maintain a high level of professionalism and discretion at all times, including during practicums. Students are not expected to tolerate inappropriate behavior, whether sexual or otherwise, on the part of Teachers, Participants, or other Students.
Confidentiality
Students will keep confidential and private all Participants’ health and medical information, and any discussion of a Participant and/or the handling of that Participant’s medical record(s) shall not violate that Participant’s confidence or privacy.
Professionalism
Students will be professional when interacting with Teachers, Participants, and other Students, and will treat Teachers, Participants, and other Students with courtesy, respect, and dignity. Students will demonstrate appropriate behaviour at all times; inappropriate behavior includes, but is not limited to, the use, whether direct (by way of action or otherwise) or indirect (by way of overtones, insinuations, or otherwise), of offensive, aggressive, intimidating, or sexual, language, gestures, contact, or remarks. Students must dress in an appropriate manner reflective of the profession and for the learning activity.
Integrity
Students should seek timely consultation from Teachers if Students are unsure of their level of knowledge and/or experience, and must not perform a treatment that they are not confident administering.
Environment
Students will not engage in behaviour that interferes with the learning environment, including any behaviour which disrupts the learning environment or distracts Teachers, Participants, or other Students. Students will respect the equipment, venue, and rules set by SMUC.
Impairment
Students will not use or ingest any substance that could compromise care of a Participant, that could disrupt the learning environment, or that could distract Teachers, Participants or other Students.
